Black Tie & Sparkles 2011

NOV
5

Saturday Novemmber 5th, 7:00pm - Late
Alexandra House Conference Centre, Wroughton

Black Tie and Sparkles Ball The 5th November was the night of the year when our annual Sands Ball was held at Alexandra House, Wroughton. The theme this year was Black Tie and Sparkles. The turn-out was amazing – over twice that of last year, with everyone arriving in their finery for 7.30pm to be greeted with a glass of bubbly, and then sitting down to a wonderful hot buffet with some truly wicked desserts for those that had the room.

Taking pride of place in the main room, we had our very special Remembrance Tree where family and friends wrote special messages to their little ones and hung them from the branches, it really was the most amazing sight, all lit up and adorned with personal and heartfelt messages. We also had a table full of beautiful glass bowls, in which we all lit floating candles in memory of our babies.

We also presented an updated version of the Swindon Sands video, which tells the story of the group, and highlights some of the amazing things that we have done in the past twelve months. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as some our members recounted their personal stories.

Later in the evening we had our raffle with many donated prizes, and for the first time there was an auction. We were very nervous to see if it would be a success but it is safe to say that we could not believe how generous people were, and the total amount raised just from the auction was over £1700! One lucky lady is going to be chauffeur driven to London in a Mercedes-Benz S Class and treated to tea at the Ritz after her husband successfully bid on both items – we all hope that they have a wonderful time.

The evening was completed with some fabulous live music from the Graham Mack Band who donated their time free of charge, and a disco with some dancing that needed to be seen to be believed! All in all the evening was a great success and the total raised came to over £4000.

We’d like to thank everyone involved, all the companies and individuals who donated some fantastic prizes and their valuable time, some fantastic organisation to make this event such a success and to everyone that dug deep into their pockets! We hope to see you all again next year.
